Hazelbank. The tight country in the crosscut at No. 1 level has how disappeared. and excellent sandstone now prevails in the face. It is expected that Kelly's reef will bo to hand some time next week. Albuknia. —The manager to-day banked 60oz lSdwb melted gold, the result of 40 loads of quartz broken from Dixon's reef in the stopes above tho battery level and four loads broken from the Success reef at tho same level. NEW ALBURNIA G.M. COMPANY. At a recent meeting of shareholders of the New Alburnia it was agreed to increase the capital of the company, the object being to enable the work recommended in the subjoined report to be carried out. One ton of the mineralised ore—of which there is a considerable body in the mine—was sent to the Cassel Plant at Karangahake, for treatment, the result of which is as follows : — Bullion extracted per ton :—Gold, 2ozs 14dwts 23grs ; silver, l'2ozs 19dwts 3grs— value, £13 12s per ton. Thames, March 25,1591. JTo the Directors of tho New Alburnia Gold Mining Company.

Gentlemen,— have the honour to furnish you with the following report on the future .prospects of your mine, and the several works necessary for its full development, and the working of those portions hitherto unworked, through which many of the rich leaders of the past run, but have been left unworked for want of a more extensive and systematic opening up. At the Whan level I propose starting at a point near the old jump- up (marked Con plan) on a footwall branch of the Sons of Freedom reef, and continuing the drive on that reef to the centre of your mine, a distance of some 300 feet, at which poiut the cross-course or main'break should be met with, and this will enable all the main portions of the mine hitherto unprospected to be reached with the least amount of driving, as the plan will show. As this drive will be on the reef the whole distance, and as the reef runs parallel with the Success, Star of the South, and other noted gold-producing reefs, there is no doubt but that rich patches will be met with, especially as many other leaders will junction with it on its course.

By continuing the _ drive on this reef through the break, it is almost certain the reef will be picked up on its eastern side, as in all probability the effect of the break is only to heave it to one side, as this reef corresponds (see plan) with the reef cut in Ruby shaft. This drive will open up a block of ground hitherto entirely unprospected at this level, but which from the nature of the country and reefs at the upper levels will amply repay the expense of the opening up. While this drive is in progress a winze should be sunk on the reef from the battery to the \Vhau level. This will give ample ventilation for the proposed works. From the point (marked D on plan) a crosscut is proposed to be driven to pick up Dixon's main reef, and this will also intersect several other leaders which are known to exist in this channel of country, such as the specimen and Christie's leaders, Dixon's footwall reef, and others, none of which have been worked in this portion of .your mine, and as in the past they have been among the most successful, there is no doubt that when opened up in this portion of your mine they will yield large and regular returns. I also propose starting from same point (marked D), and driving a crosscut on break south. This will also run through maiden country, and will intersect Success, Star of the South, and other reefs and leaders known to exist, and as these reefs and leaders have all carried good gold up to the break, there is no doubt but that when worked on its eastern side they will be equally rich and profitable. Battery Level: By continuing the present battery level crosscut a distance of about 70 feet from the present workings on Dixon's footwall reef, Dixon's main reef will be cut and can then be driven on both east and west. From its highly auriferous character both in the Alburnia and other mines there is no doubt but that good returns will be obtained. This reef has been of a more uniform nature than almost any other on the field, only occasionally giving rich patches of stone, while the heavily mineralised quartz of the main reef has yielded well and regularly. , , In order to secure permanent and thorough ventilation in this portion of the mine, it will be advisable to connect the present workings on Dixon's footwall reef with the Eldorado level (marked E on plan), and also necessary to complete a system of permanent ventilation to clean out the Nebraska drive (see plan). This will also afford an opportunity of working on the leaders marked on plan Nos. 5,6, 7. These also are all in virgin country, and the country in the drive being a gold-bearing strata it is most probable that when worked on they will turn out goldproducing. I also propose to thoroughly repair both battery and Whan levels, so that the works of the mine may be carried on economically. In conclusion I would respectfully state that the above proposed works are almost entirely to' open out known reefs in virgin country, and that the drive proposed into the centre of your mine will enable any reefs or leaders to be worked in the most expeditious and economical manner, while the proposed method of obtaining thorough and permanent ventilation 1 feel sure is at once the best as well as the least expensive that could be devised. I may say that it will be practically a new mine if these works are carried out, and that a prosperous future may reasonably be expected.—i am, &c, O. Thomas, Mine Manager.

MIKE MANAGERS REPORTS. May Queen*.— breaking down the No. 4 lode at No. 2 level to day, gold was seen freely through the quartz. Colours of gold were also seen in a small, leader about \\ inches in thickness, that came in from the right hand or south side of the drive on No. 4 lode, and at about right angles to No. 4 lode, with an underlie to the south. [Directors have deemed it wise to terminate the contract for driving crosscut at No. 1 level through the hard the company is on payable crushing from the other parts of the mine.] Pride ok the Hills (Kuaotunu).— reef in the end of the drive is about 9 inches through. The country still continues tight, and reef i* not prospecting so well. The latter part of the eel' I shifted the men back about 15 or 20 feet from the face, and put a crosscut into the hangingwn.ll. On cutting into the wall about 4 or 5 feet, we discovered a body of quartz about 15 inches through, running parallel with the reef, from which we obtained some very fair prospects. We are now stripping this lode. Flying Cloud. —During the past week we have risen 11 feet, making the total distance from starting point 02 feet. We have also taken down the reef within about 4 feet from the back of the rise. The average width of the reef is from IS inches to 2 feet in thickness, and encased in an excellent class of sandstone. The reef looks very promising. No gold has been seen in the reef as yet, although a little gold has been seen in the stringers of quartz that are crossing the country in stripping the reef.
