TEE WRECK OF THE ASSAYE.
[BY TELEGRAPH.press ASSOCIATION'.J Dunedin, Thursday. In August last, a half-casto living at Chatham Islands saw rockets sent up, evidently froni a vessel lying on the west reef. It was after this that the wreckage of the Assays began to come ashore. The half-caste's story was only laughed at by his people, and they say a fishing party had lights burning; but Mr. Shand, after investigating the matter, is quite satisfied the half-caste's statement is true, and that the rockets came from the Assaye.
