[BY TELEGRAPH.PRESS ASSOCIATION.] CiißisTCiitJß.cu, Tuesday. A conference of delegates from the Metropolitan Racing Clubs met this evening. Mr. J. 1). Ormond was elected chairman. It was decided that the voting be on the basis of one vote for each club. Mr. M H. Clifford gave notice to move, " That the constitution of the New Zealand Jockey Club, as drafted at the Wellington conference, be adopted." The conference adjourned till next evening.

The Annual meetings of the New Zealand Baptist Union will be held next week at the Auckland Tabernacle, commencing on Tuesday next at noon by a devotional meeting to be conducted by the Rev. T. Bray, of Nelson. In the afternoon at half-past two the Conference will be formed (Rev. A. North, President, in the chair), when the annual report of the Union will be lead, and in the evening the public meeting (Hon. T. Dick presiding), when the abstract of the report will be read by the Rev. W. R. Woolley and the President's address delivered by the Rev. A. North. On the following Wednesday will be the annual missionary breakfast; morning, election of officers, reception of reports, etc., and in the evening the public missionary meeting (Mr. E. Bell in the chair), the speakers being the Revs. John Hooper, D.D., P. H. Corntord, and T. Spurgeon. On Thursday afternoon a paper will be read by the Rev. D. Dolamore, with discussion, and in the evening public tea and conversazione in the Tabernacle. On Friday evening, the Union sermon will be preached by the Rev. J. T. Hinton, of Caversharn, after which the communion service will be conducted by the Rev. P. H. Cornford, of Napier. It is anticipated some of the representatives will arrive in Auckland this week, and it is probable Mr. Spurgeon will preach at the Tabernacle on Sunday evening, and Mr. Cornford tako one of the services at the Ponsonby Baptist Church. The Now Zealand Baptist remarks, concerning this (the eighth) annual conference"ln numbers we fear it will be smaller than some previous ones. The distance and consequent expense of travelling will keep a number away, and other circumstances combine to prevent the attendance of others. . November, \*;e are informed, is one of the busiest months of the year, and it is absolutely impossible for a good many to get away from business then who would be able and willing to do so if the meetings were held later in the season. We commend the matter to the consideration of the delegates." The Duke of Fife started life with an enormous fortune, to which he has steadily added. Everything that he touches seems to turn to gold. Stock in a London trust company purchased by him some years ago at £30 per share is now quoted at £9000 per share. • . . ;
