FOOTBALL.
Though Saturday is what may be termed an " off day" in regard to cup matches, the interest attaching to the benefit match between Grafton and Ponsonby is very great, and the attendance promises to be exceptionally large, while the match itself promises to be a most exciting one. It has been deemed advisable to keep down all expenses in order that the nett receipts may be as large as possible, and consequently the projected procession of breaks has been abandoned. Hunter' 3 Artillery Band, who have kindly offered their services gratuitously, will proceed to the ground in an open tramcar.
An additional inducement to the public to undertake the journey to Epsom will be offered by a match between the Auckland and Gordon clubs. They will commence to play at 2.30 p.m., and will finish in time to allow the Grafton-Ponsonby fixture to begin at 3.30 p.m. sharp. The Auckland team will be: Burrows, Hales, Sage, D. Harvey, McCausland, Tidmarsh, Ramsay, Henderson, Kelly, Walker, Leathart, Williamson, Duncan, Stewart, O'Brien, Aldon, McKean. A football match is to be played at Parawai to-morrow, between teams chosen from the local clubs, at which there will be a small charge for admission. The proceeds will be handed to Mrs. Conroy, of Auckland. On Monday the annual match between teams representing the Law and Banks will be played, and is expected to furnish an exciting match. The Banks will be represented by Creagh, Gould, Hammond, Howard, Hull, Hulme, Jervis, Mair, MacCormick, Pritt, Rees, Rudd, Sage, Webster, Whyte, White; emergencies, Johnston, Kitchener, Gordon, and J. Hull.
