At the Police Court yesterday Duncan Neilson was lined £2 and costs £1 17s for driving a pair of horses furiously from the Whatawha'ta racecourse through Victoriastreet, Hamilton, on the afternoon of April 2, whither he had come for more beer for trie people at the races. A charge of being drunk while in charge of the horns was dismissed. The nominations for the new members of the several local Highway Boards are receivable as follows Pukekura, -Srd instant; Newcastle and Tuhikaramea, '24th : Mangapiko, Tamabere, and Kirikiroa, 2">th; Walton and MataiUHta, 26th. T.'i Awamcti-, Saturday. At the annual meeting of the subscribers of the Te Awamutu library a very satisfactory report was received from the outgoing committee and adopted. The library is now housed in a building granted for its use by the Government, and the number of volumes since the removal of the building to a more centra! position has increased to 1000. The following new committee was elected, viz., Messrs. "Andrew, Aider, Cox, Ford, Millar. Mandeno, and Vause, the latter gentleman being elected permanent chairman. A lkx'A n OKA, Saturday. Reports from the Waipa. River district, now that threshing has set in, give a not very favourable yield for the wheat, winch varies on different farms from J'J to 22 bushels per acre. In the case of oats the yield is a fairly average one. Jhe animal in question ran at the last Ohinemun •races and was claimed by a person who alleged that it. was stolen from him some years ago. This is the third case recently.
