WELLINGTON NEWS NOTES.
[BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Wellington, Tuesday. CLERK OF PARLIAMENT. Mr. Leonard Stow, hitherto designated clerk of the Legislative Council, has been appointed by His Excellency the Governor, to the higher office of clerk of Parliament, recently vacated by the resignation of Major Campbell. The office is titular rather than lucrative, no emoluments being annexed to it. There is, however, a special function attached to it, that of conveying by direction of the Speakers of both Houses to His Excellency the Governor the decisions of the Legislature, and notifying to Parliament) the royal assent \to Bills passed. The appointmenb is formally annexed to the senior clerkship of.the Upper Chamber, but was held by Major Campbell by virtue of his seniority as a clerk of Parliament, when it was last made. The appointment will appear in the next Gazette. The appointmenb is made under the seal of. the colony, and dates from the Ist of October, 1889. , THE SPEAKER Off THE COUNCIL.
