MR. SWARBRICK AND THE SYNOD.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —From your report of the last meeting of the Auckland Synod, I see that exception was taken to :» statement alleged to have been made by me at a previous sitting. As 1 have no other means of putting myself right with my brother Churchmen, 1 ask you to kindly give the same publicity to my reply. What I actually stated was that, owing to lack of information, a clergyman had unwittingly passed the door of a dying parishioner, whose family had thereupon abandoned the Church, and instanced this as showing the need of organised lay help in order to secure perfect information and sympathy between a clergyman and his parishioners in a scattered parish. If the Rev. Mr. Marshall was present when I spoke, it is to be regretted that he did not raise his objec tion at a time when I could have defended myself. If lie was not present, it is equally to be regretted that he has so misstated my words.— am, &c., A. Swarbkick.
