A GIRL DROWNED BEFORE THE

EYES OF 11ER PARENTS.

[BY TKLKORAPH. — PRKSS ASSOCIATION'.] Chhihtchurch, Wednesday. A skvkn-ykar-OLD girl, the daughter of H. Pnnnett, Taitapu, was drowned on Monday in the River Hals well, near her parents'house. She fell into seven feet of water, and an alarm was raised by another girl. The father and mother ran to the spot, but as the child was sinking and the father could not swim, he dared not venture in. An effort was made to reach the child with a ladder proved fruitless. Finally a boat was used and the bod)' recovered, but too late to save her life. At the inquest a verdict of accidental death was returned.
