Tile competition for the £5 given by the Union S.S. Co. to those volunteers who represented Auckland at the Melbourne Centennial Rifle Meeting was hold yesterday afternoon at the Mount , Eden Range, and resulted in a victory for Volunteer McCarthy, of the Onehunga Rifle Company, with the splendid score of 79, Sergeant Fairs, Victoria, obtaining second prize. The conditions were : —2OO, 300, and 500 yards, seven shots at each range. The result was as follows :—Volunteer McCarthy (Onehungas), 79, £3; Sergeant Fairs (Victorias), 70, £2; Seaman Weir (Thames Navals), 75 ; Captain Skinner (exchampion), 74; Sergeant Parslow (champion of New Zealand), 70 ; Captain Cooper (Victorias), 07.
