MISS PHYLLIS BROGHTON'S BREACH OF PROMISE ACTION.
Miss Phyllis Brouoiiton's action against Viscount Dang,an, for alleged breach of promise of marriage, is practically certain to come into court, there being, it is said, no chance of a settlement. The viscount's income does not amount to more than £1000 per annum, so that even if he desired to effect a compromise, he would find it difficult to satisfy the alleged wounded feelings fof a lady who estimates the damage at £'20,000. Sir Charles Russell, Q.C., will defend the viscount, while the (SolicitorGeneral will champion the iady. The case will be robbed of one of its sensational aspects by the fact that there are no letters in the case practically, so that the world will not be able to judge whether the amatory effusions of burlesque actresses and viscounts are as exuberant as thoje of the majority of the parties figuring in breach of promise cases. The statement of defence will not be delivered till after the long vacation ; and as the case will then have to be entered and take its tun i. the list, the hearing is yet a long way off, especially as there are a great many cases already entered for trial, while two of the common law judges will be engaged on the Parnell Commission.
