The district engineer, Mr. Hales, has inspected and taken over the Bridge, and the authorities at Wellington have been duly acquainted with the fact preparatory to its being handed over to the local bodies. This may not be for some little time, as under one of the clauses of the contract the contractor, Mr. Lark ins, is bound to its maintenance for a given period after the completion of the contract.
