DEAD BODY FOUND AT COX'S CREEK.

THE REMAINS IDENTIFIED. At about twenty minutes past six p.m. yesterday, two boys named William Butler and William Trevarthen, whilst rowing in a boat at the mouth of Cox's Creek, discovered the dead body of a man lying face downward on the beach at highwater mark, it being then ebb tide. They reported the occurrence to Constable McConnell, of Ponsonby, who proceeded with all haste to the spot, and having examined the body, obtained a springcart, in which the remains of the deceased were conveyed to the morgue in Custom-street. The body had evidently been in the water for about '24 hours. Blood was flowing from a small wound near the left eye, apparently the bite of a fish. Detective Tuohy subsequently proceeded to the morgue in company with a man named Thos. Amsell, and the latter identified the body as that of Henry T. Sharpe, who was employed by Messrs. Foster and Co., plumbers. Amsell resides at the Pier Hotel, where Sharpe frequently took his meals. As stated in yesterday morning's issue of the Herald, Sharpe was last seen on Tuesday night in the vicinity of the wharf. Deceased is known to have been in monetary difficulties, and we understand that a warrant was in force for his arrest on a charge of embezzlement. He had been in a worried state of mind because a promissory note which he had given was nearly due. An inquest on the body will probably be held to-day.
