GREAT EARTHQUAKE.
[PRESS association.] Sydney, September 6. News has reached here of a severe earthquake having occurred last month in the New Hebrides group of islands. The shock was a very violent one, and lasted several minutes. It is feared that gfeat damage has been done at some of the islands from which no tidings have been received. So far as is at present known, the earthquake was most severe at the island of Tanna. It is reported that Port Resolution has been blocked up by a submarine disturbance.
