SPORTING.
The s.s. Rotomahana, which arrived from the J3outh yesterday morning, brought up the thoroughbred brood mares Speargrass (by Traducer—Toitoi) and Spinaker (by AlbanySpritsail), which have been purchased by the New Zealand Stud Com pany from Mr. G. G. Stead.
Major Walmsley has returned from his visit to the West Coast in search of horses for the Indian market. He was successful in securing about 120 of the right stamp, and they are all highly spoken of,
