THE WAIKOMITI CEMETERY.

The Legal Committee of the City Council made the following recommendations to that body yesterday evening : — Your Committso, having visited Waikomiti Cemetery on May 22, recommend— That the 345 shelter trees (pines) planted last season bo dug round and manured with bonedust; and that tho remaining trees and shrubs), 300 in number, also planted last season, be treated in the same manner ; the cost for the whole to bo £8 Is 3d, at 3d per tree and shrub. 2. That the pittosponim hedge be dug along, manured, and trimmed, at a cost of £1. 3. That the main central road in the cemetery, and tho crossroads to It, from tho present road in tho cemetery, be planted with 336 shelter trees, at a cost of £10 163; and that such sum include the price of the trees, bonedust, staking, hoeing, replacing failures, and maintenance for one year from completion of planting. 4. That each of the ten reserves in the cemetery be planted with suitable trees and shrubs, at a cost of £14 10 (£1 9s each reserve), such sum to include digging , and preparing ground, trees, shrubs, grass seed, and Jcwt boneaust to each reserve. 5. That the outer boundary of the cemetery be planted with a double row of shelter trees where not already planted (number of trees required 146, cost £7 Ss); same price, terms, and conditions as refer to trees mentioned in paragraph 3. 6. That ten acres of the cemetery bo cross-ploughed and planted with grass seed ; the work to be performed by tender. 7. To prevent walking on the reserve between the sexton's residence and the mortuary chapel, we recommend a railing should be placed on the verandah of the residence. 8. The present road requires metalling with scoria; and your committee recommend it should bo performed by tender under tho superintendence of the City Engineer. The works suggested are necessary, and your committee suggest they should be adopted, and carried into effect this present season.

Mr. Patterson moved an amendment to clause 6, " That ten acres of the cemetery bo ploughed, the work to be performed by tender."

After some discussion, the amendment was carried, and the report was then adopted as amended.
