RAILWAY REFORM : A CORRECTION.
TO THE EDITOR. Sib, —On reading my letter as published by you this morning I at once noticed that I had made an error in quoting the coal rate at 4s 6d. It should have been 2s per ton. lam quite unable to account for the mistake, except that in dealing with our complicated tariff it is almost impossible to avoid an occasional error. This one does not affect the conclusions drawn. At the correct rate the decrease in coal traffic accounts for the whole decrease in goods revenue.—l am, &c., Samuel Vaile. 23rd May, 1888.
