BANKRUPTCY.
DEBTOR'S EXAMINATION.
E. Warmoll.—Mrs. Eliza Warmoll, bankrupt, deposed before the Official Assignee yesterday that she and her husband, John Warmoll, resided ati a farm called Sunny Brae, near Lake Takapuna. Witness had no interest in this farm, which was rented from her mother, Mrs. Catherine Holland, to whom the whole of the live stock and implements, and the furniture, also belonged. About 12 or 18 months previous to February, 1876, witness commenced a business on her own account, without capital, and the plan which she adopted was to travel through country townships, and temporarily open a millinery showroom afc each place whioh she visited. In this way she was enabled to contribute towards her children's support up to the time of the death of her first husband, and the children were then entrusted to the care of witness's mother, who was to be paid for their maintenance. Before debtor's marriage with Mr. Warmoll about £130 was invested in 71 acres of land near Lake Takapuna, adjoining the Hurstmere property, for the benefit of witness's children, and instructions were given for the preparation of the deed of conveyance to her, but the solicitor who drew up the deed embodied a proviso that in the event of witness dying before Warmoll the property was to revert to the latter, and some time waa apent in altering the deed, in order that the original intention might be carried out, viz., that witness hold the property and deal with it at her own discretion, for the benefit of the children of her first marriage. Mrs. Warmoll'a attention was so taken up with this legal matter that her business was neglected, and she had to file a petition of insolvency. This step was also the result of an action by the Public Trustee, for the balance of the purchase money of land obtained at Lake Takapuna from Mr. Hurst, the purchase money, witness believed, being £450. Mrs. Warmoll's debts were £145 2s 4d, and she had no assets; the property at Lake Takapuna belonged to her children.
