[BY TELEGRAPH.OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Helensville, Saturday.
The captain of the bat que Howard, which
has arrived to load junk for Melbourne, reports having on the morning of March 14, during the passage from Queensland, in lat. 27 '20 S., long. 149 E., picked up a boat containing Henri Robert, a native of Switzerland, and Jacques Fresco, an Italian. They are water fishermen, and were blown off the Now Caledonian coast 19 days previously. They had 201bs of ship biscuits and a little brackisE water left. After
being taken on board, their boat was scuttled to prevent passing vessels being deceived by it. The men have no appearance of being escapees. They appeared anxious to return via Sydney. Robert states that he is the owner of other fishing boats. The boat was in good order, was 20 feet long, decked, and had two hatches and a cabin. It was cutter-rigged, had jib and mainsail, well coppered and copperfastened ; decks newly caulked. It was too heavy to hoist on board. The captain is desirous of the police reporting to the several consuls. : One of the men has a wife and family at Noumea.
