"THE WORLD."
The closing performance of "A Run of Luck " was well attended on Saturday evening, the lower portion of the theatre being crowded. This evening Mr. Holt's company will produce the sensational Drury Lane play, "The World." The wonderful success which attended the representation of this drama when staged here live years ago, is a guarantee of its popularity during tho present season, and it is probable that Mr. Holt's enterprise will be rewarded with crowded houses. The scenery (painted by Mr. George Gordon) has been brought over, and will be presented here in its entirety. The sensational incidents of the play include the explosion of an infernal machine on board a passenger ship ; a struggle for the last drop of water on a raft occupied by a few of the survivors from a wrecked vessel; a robbery in an hotel, through the use of chloroform, and the murder of the thief; a oleverly arranged struggle between patient and keepers in a lunatic asylum ; a rapid change of scene when the madman makes hia escape; and the death of the villain of the play by falling down the lift in the Grand Hotel, in London. The full cast of characters, with synopsis, etc., appears in our advertisement oolumns. It may be added that "The World" will only hold possession of the boards till Wednesday, when it will give way to Mr. Holt'a fourth novelty, "Taken from Life," whioh closes the season at the end of this week.
