THIS GOLD FIELDS.

(I [BY telegraph,—OWN correspondent.]

Thanks, Wednesday. Waiotahi.— of gold from 180 tons quartz*

Cambria. — The mine manager wired yesterday : " Fifteen pounds specimens from leader in cross-out No. 3 level."

Saxon.—The mine manager report* : The drive at No. 4 level has only been extended five feet this week, the flinty passed through having been very tiresome to work. We are dear of it now, and a very nice looking reef, about two feet thick, in which colours of gold are seen, is showing in the face on the footwall; bat this does not represent all the crashing dirt here, as there is about three feet more of reef-formation, in which there are many nioe-looking stringers. All this has to be broken and pioked over, and causes delay in getting ahead. The drive seaward on this reef hat. been extended eight f«et daring the past week. The reef here is from 18 inches to two feet, and shows colours of - gold when breaking down. In the stopes the stringers are still being shot off. They all carry a little gold, and must be broken before the'back stopes are extended. At No. 3 level four stopes are in progress, two seaward from the rise and two hill ward. In all, the reef looks very well, carries excellent mineral, and good colours of gold are seen. The reef is from two feet to two feet six inches in thickness. I have given up working the concentrator. That part of the pyrites I intend putting through the berdans, will have to lay a few days before it is fit for treatment. When through, I will report the result. The amount of amalgam at each battery in as follows Prince, 186oz 3dwt; Caledonian, 10720z : total, 12580z 3dwt.
