ELECTRIC LIGHT FOR AUCKLAND.
Messrs. E. A. Ashckoft and Co., „ have written, under date September 30tb, to the Town Clerk stating that they had seen Dr. Lemon, and he had stated that he had finally replied to the Auckland Council offer* ing to allow the wires to be erected overhead provided they were insulated " for a distance of 30 feet on each side at places where they cross the Government telegraph lines. Although this would cause some extra expense, Messrs. Ashcroffc and Co. were willing to accept this arrangement; for the sake of expediting the work. If the Council replied to Dr. Lemon accepting the conditions, the license would be at once issued. Nov/ that this difficulty was arranged, the contract would speedily be completed. They bad been obliged to be careful about this matter, as they had formerly suffered a heavy loss owing to the unexpected, and, as they considered, unjustifiable, action of the Telegraph Department. They also enclosed a copy of a testimonial from Messrs. Blundell Brothers congratulating them on tho thoroughly satisfactory manner in which they had carried out an installation for displaying the election returns at the office of the livening Post. It stated that in spite of bad weather, and the very short time in which the lights were erected, they were steady, brilliant, and in every respect satisfactory. A letter was also received by the Council from Dr. Lemon, requiring the insulation of the wires as already mentioned before a license could be granted. ■ ■ ;
