SOCIETY OF ARTS.
The entries for the forthcoming Exhibition of the Society of Arts closed on Saturday afternoon. The judging committee of the Society mot in tho afternoon for the purpose of passing exhibits. They also awarded the silver medal of the society to Miss Rosa K. Biuideu's " Study of a Head from Life," class 1, section 1, as being tho best work in the whole of the competition. The society awarded IS section prizes (Irrespective of pupils' drawings, district school drawings, photographs, and special subjects), three bronzo medals to tho best in each class of drawing and painting, which, by its excellence, merited tho distinction, and one silver modal to the best work in the whole of the competitions—the medals carrying also additional money prizes. Seven section prizes, the three bronze medals, and the silver medal have been taken by Christchurch, which has also taken Mrs. J. MoCoah Clark's special prize for the best study of a head from life, in oils or water colours. By advertisement in another column it will be seen that it is notified that the secretary will be in attendance at the office, Art Gallery, daily, from ton a.m. to six p.m., to receive members' subscriptions and issue tickets. Members who have paid their subscriptions and have not yet received their Conversazione tickets, are rcquosted to notify the secretary forthwith. The exhibition of the society will be opened in the new Art Gallery on Thursday evening, with a members' conversazione, to which only members and their friends will bo admitted, and the public opening on tho following day.
