The first meeting of the Otahuhu Licensing committee was held in the Courthouse on Tuesday, the 22nd instant, at noon. Present: H. Button, 0. A. Bewden, John Gordon, S. Luke, and W. Absolum. On the motion of Mr. Bowden, Mr. Button was unanimously elected chairman for the year. The Independent Order ot JReohabites is making good progress throughout Auckland Province of late. Tents are becoming scattered throughout the country districts. Whangaroa, Warkwo'rtb, Mangawhare, Aratapu, Bombay, Onehunga, and Devonport all have tents opened daring the last two or three years. The number of members in the district on January I, 18S6, was 514, and on Jannary 1, 1887, 559, an increase of 45. The average age of the membership is 2S-45years. The'Digtrict Funeral Fund is in such an excellent actuarial position that for the last two or three years no levies have beeu paid into that fund, its only source of revenue at present being the interest on accumulated funds. The fund now stands at £2194 7s 4d, whilst the accumulated funds of the tents total £3365 103 Sd. The increase for the half-year just closed being £420 4s 2d. The District and Tent Funds together amount to £5559 18a, or nearly £10 per member. The annual rate of sickness per member is 9 days 17£ hours, and the rate of payment 3a 11 id. It is proposed to introduce an Equalisation of Sick Payments Scheme, similar to what has been worked in some of the home districts for several years past, whereby an adjustment of Tent Sick Funds shall take place yearly ; those tents whose rates of sickness have been below the district average assisting those whose rates of siokness have been above.—[Aratapu Correspondent, March 15.] Wo know Hot Bitters are above and beyond at» as a nutrition* tonic and curative.
