AVONDALE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH.
TO THE EDITOR. Sib, was very much surprised to see a letter from Mr. Mackenzie in to-day's Herald on a matter that is still sab jadioe. I cannot be so disloyal to the Church as to discuss in your columns the unhappy state of affairs at Avondale, but there is one statement in that letter that does not affect the merits of the case; and as it has been repeatedly made by Mr. Mackenzie, I feel compelled to contra diot it now that he has given it such pub* lioity. He says : " During two years there was no communion hold." The truth is that) in addition to being held f.t Avondale towards the end of the year, the communion was held at Hobsonville on 14th December, 1884, and on the following Sabbath I began work, by appointment of the Presbytery, at; St. Peter's. That statement is fairly characteristic of the entire letter, and were I permitted to give you a "history of th» case" it would be very different from that given by Mr. Mackenzie, in whose prosperity no person could possibly have had greater cause for rejoicing than yours, etc., Robt. Sommkhville. I 16th March, 18S7. ! —— . : . (
