THE NELSON BLUE JACKETS.
MONUMENT TO MEN-OF-WAR'S MEN. [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Wellington, Tuesday. The chairman of tho Association (Mr. F. Thomson) has forwarded a cheque for £50 to Captain Lake, as an acknowledgment of the services of the crew of the Nelson at the recent great fire in Wellington. Having obtained the Admiral's permission to present the testimonial, they received a letter from Admiral Tryon in the following terms • "I requested Captain Lake to ascertain the wishes of the men, and, after full consideration, they have expressed to him the wish that it should take the form of a subscription towards a testimonial which they desire to erect to the memory of their shipmates who have died while serving on this station. The monument to be placed in the cemetery where they are buried. Should this oourse commend itself to the Association, and a cheque be sent to Captain Lake, H.M.s. Nelson, the sum will be devoted to the furtherance of the above object."
