Thk Hawke'e Bay Jockey Club's meeting opens to day, when the Napier Handicap will be decided. For this event Pearl and Pasha are the most fancied, and of these two the former ia considered the most likely winner. The Auckland representative, Lady Norah, has a good many followers.

The Henderson's Mill Turf Club's meeting, which takes place on Thursday next, gives avery promise of being as successful as former g»theringa that have been held under the auspices of Obis popular club. The Railway Department have made excellent arrangements for the conveyance of passengers to and from the course, and this will no doubt have the effect of drawing a very large attendance, should the weather keep fine. A little speculation is going on over the principal events of the meeting. The Hurdle Race and Cup, for which Omata and Cremorne are the most fanoied, s's to 1 being taken about it. The club have engaged impey's fine band to perform the musical portion of the programme. It was intended to have shipped the hurdle racer Magnesia back to Auckland by the Mararoa, which called at Napier on Saturday, but it was found impoesible to do so, and she was, therefore, struok out of her Henderson's Mill engagement yesterday morning. A telegram, via the Bluff, eays:— Qaite a number of distinguished visitors were present at Flemington races lust week, inoluding, besides the Melbourne government house party, Lord Carrington, Karl Dudley, and Lord Sandhurst. The racing was unusually good, close finishes being the rule, except in the Champion Race, and several dead heats ocourring. Brown, riding Nelson in tbe Cop, lost hie whip duriDg the last half mile, and many think if that had not happened, and the jockey had not been somewhat nervous at meeting so redoubtable a horseman as Hales, Trident would not have caught the judge's eye first. Major George's win in the Stakes was very popular, and he was loudly cheered as the jockey weighed in. LANCASTER PARK TROTTING MEETING. [by. telkgraph.—press association.] CHRisTCHCTRcn, Monday.
