THE GREENWOOD CONCERTS.

TO THK KDITOB. Sir,—Mrs. Greenwood's letter of the 12th inst, requires but little comment. My state* ment that the rondo movement was played at a " terrific rate " I still maintain. Again,' Mrs, Greenwood, in all conscience, must know, that, in the "accelerando to a presto" question, 1 alluded to the codas of the final movements, and not the final movements in their entirety. The duties of a critic are evidently understood by Mrs. Greenwood to be confiued to " attacks " on the young performer*, mode of "entrance and exit. Mrs. Greenwood, as an artist, must know that I refrained from criticising the violin performance solely out of sympathy. As these are the only points bearing upon the discussion I must decline to continue a correspondence that has an inclination to diverge into an unpleasant path. In conclusion, lam sorry that a criticism made in a generous spirit should have had such dire results. I am also sorry that Mrs. Greenwood was prompted to use the terms "enemy," and '• revenge."—l am, &c, Tub Herald Cbimc. (Mrs. Greenwood's letter was most injudicious, to use the mildest word possible. It is evident that she is quite ready to assail any critic, who (although writing in the kindliest possible spirit) mentions a fault, as an "enemy," who writes from motives of •* revenge." To do so in the present instance was simply a pieoe of rude impertinence. If this is the style in whioh Mrs. Greenwood proposes to conduct the concerts given by her children, she had better hand over the duty to some more discreet person.—Ed.]
