« [FROM OCR OWN CORRESPONDENTS.] Hamilton, Friday. Mr Osmond, of Auckland, was here yesterday, and signed the lease of the Claudelandß Racecourse to the trustees for the Waikato Turf Club. The Waikato Cheese Factory is still receiving 380 gallons of milk daily, and are butter-making. Alexandra, Friday. The Rev. Mr. Gittos, Wesleyan minister of the Kaipara, has just returned from a mission among the various settlements in the King Country, where he has been well received by the natives, who gladly accepted the opportunity of attending the services held by him, and of solemnising baptisms and marriages. He was cordially received by the Ngatimaniapoto, being for a time the guest of Kewi. Mr. Gittos visited Whatiwhatihoe, and held services, at which Tawhiao, and even votaries of the now religion, attended. Mr. Gittos finds the natives much deteriorated in character and material comforts since bis former visit some time age—a result owing, probably, to the system of isolation which they had adopted, the communion of goods (which is a bar to all individual progress), and their jealousy of the intentions of European visitors with respect to either land or gold-findine. .
