THE GULDFIELDS.

♦ [FROM OCR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Thames, Saturday evening. Caledonian.—The manager is now satisfied that the body of quartz met in the crosscut, Balkan's section, is No. 1 reef. A shot was put into the footwall to-day, but although the quartz looks well no gold was Been, However, the lode is about 12 feet wide, and the manager states that the best quart , in former times was in the hangingwall. The hangingwall in the winze, No. 2 level, contains abundance of bright mineral, and colours of gold are seen. The crushing is shaping for nearly an ounce to the load. Moanataiari. —As the Golden Crown boiler was being inspected yesterday, very little work has been done on the leader recently cut. Golden Crown.— Sloping is still proceeding on the shaft lode, and the ciushing is payable. Saxon.— The branch from No. 1 lode is nearly a foot wide, and colours of gold are seen. Driving hillward is still proceeding. . A crushing of about 30 loads has been oommenced. Sharemarkkt.— Blanche, sellers Is 3d ; Cambria, buyers 9a 6d ; Manukau, sellers Is 2d ; Alburnia, sellers '%, buyers Is 6d ; New Eureka, sellers Is 6d ; Caledonian, sellers 8s 3d. ' — ; Karangahake Quartz Reduction Co.— We would draw attention to the advertisement in another column of the meeting to form the above into a limited company, called for this day at a quarter past three, at the office of Mr. K. AroDonald Scott. Cambkia.— mine has greatly improved within the last few days. New Shamrock. —The mine manager reports that he has driven on the reef 16 feet eastward, and saw gold first 10 feet, and that he has started also to drive westward from the winze, on which side the reef looks better. The westward side is towards the Blanche. BILVKRTON (Waihi).—The mine manager, under date May 13, writes as follows : I beg to inform you that we broke through to the winze yesterday at about 11 feet from the bottom, so that now, having a good current of air, we shall be able to work to better advantage. There was a fair show of gold for about a couple of feet before breaking through, but it in quite evident that the run of gold does not extend far westerly of the winze, or, if bo, it is patchy. We got about 201bsof picked stone, some of which was very good, on last night's shift, in a seam about four inches thick running in and dipping towards the oeatre of the reef. This Beam is behind the foot of the timbers, and has never been touched before. We have about 30 feet of the drive to timber up to the winze, which 1 intend doing before driving any further. Wβ shall then form a platform across the winze, and drive ahead, keeping the above seam with us as far as possible, that ii, if it continues. I might mention that there is only about four feet of water in the winze since we stopped sinking, so that in mode* rately dry weather there would be little trouble in sinking or working the ground underneath.
