BOY DROWNED IN FREEMAN'S BAY.
, ♦ Yesterday morning, as a man named William Holman, a carpenter, was looking at hie boat, at anchor near St. Mary's Point, he noticed the dead bofly of a boy near the timber booms moored there. He sent information of the affair to the water police, and Constable McDonnell went over to the locality indicated, and took charge of the body, which was brought to the morgue to await an inquest. The body was subsequently identified as that of Arch. W. Cooke, aged 10 years, whose parents resided in Hobson-f treet. The lad was seen alive by his mother at two o'clock on Saturday afternoon, and when leaving home said he would not be long, but he never returned. The parents were searching for the boy on Saturday night, and failing to find him reported the matter to the police on Sunday morning. There is little doubt the boy lost his life playing on the booms, a dangerous practice which many children engage in. When the body was found the boy had on trousers, shirt, and braces, and his boot*, seeks, and jacket were found on tho beach.
