Mr. CampbellBannerman, Secretary of State for War, stated in the House of Commons to-day, in reply to a question, that it was the intention of the Government to withdraw the British troops to Assouan, on the First Cataract of the Nile, the position at Waddy Haifa, on the Second Cataract, being held by Egyptian troops. London, March 23. Mr. Campbell-Bannerman informed the House to-day that Her Majesty's Government considered the maintenance of the present large force in Egypt was an unfair strain on the army, and proposed to reduce the garrison to 8000 men during the eurrent year.
