TAUPO.

The Native Land Court, which has been eitting at Taupo for some time past, has, we are informed, passed through a largo quantity of land. During the laat fortnight the block of Taupo West, comprising over half a million acres, has been adjudicated upon. There hsive been, as might have been expected, a large number of Maoris congregated at the settlement, and the stores and hotels have in coneequenca done a good stroke of bnsineee. This is, however, coming to an end, as this Court will close at the end of the month. The highest price offered for the land by I<he Government is Is 6d per acre, md very little ban been sold at that price, the natives preferring to hold on fora better figure. Private purchasers are, however, practically excluded from competing, and the vast majority of the land is of a character that would not be likely to induce private individuals to become buyers. Our informant, who rode to and from Lichfield, speaks highly of the scenery of the road and of the wonders of the thermal springs at Wairakei, which apprar, in conjunction with the grand lasenery of the lake, to attract a considerable number of tourists from other parte of New Zealand, and strangors from beyond seaa. The road from Lichfield ie now iii excellent order, and to thoae who wish to seoi Taupo, as well as the marvellous natural sights of Rotorua, with the railway just about to be opened to Lichfield —the rails being already laid —our informant recommends to take this route.
