NORTHERN COMPANY'S EXCURSIONS.
The Northern Steamship Company, with a desire to provide weekly cheap excursions, have during the past mouth or so bean making excursion trips to the various popular places of resort, such as the Waiwera, Hot Springs, the Kawau, and the fishing grounds otf Whangarei, and they have all proved most pleasant trips and have been very fairly patronised. Two other excursions are announced, and both of them are expected to be largely patronised. The first is to Mercury Bay. for which place the Aryyle is to start this evening at seven o'clock, returning from Mercury Bay on Saturday evening. The fare has been fixed at the low figure of £1 for the return journey. Those who patronise this trip will have the opportunity of witnessing the regatta that is to be be held at Mercury Bay to-morrow, for the various events of which good prizes have been offered. There will be several Auckland competitors, so that additional interest is centred in the several races. To the Waiwera the Clansman is to make a trip tomorrow, leading here at two p.m., returning from there at such an hour on Monday morning as to enable excursionist to reach Auckland before business hours. The return fare is fixed at 12s 6d. A largo number are anticipated to proceed on this trip. It is contemplated by the Northern Company to extend their trips to the various fine and picturesque harbours of the Great Barrier, and to other, as yet not recently visited places of attraction. It is to be hoped the pluck of the Northern Company in this matter will be well supported.
