NEW ZEALAND ART STUDENTS' ASSOCIATION.
* There was a good attendance yesterday at the Exhibition of the Association, especially in the evening, when the Orchestral Society was going through its usual practice in the hall, under theconductorehip of HerrSchmitt. Some new pictures have been received, which have come to hand late. In the loan collection of paintings is a "Cavalier's Head," after Rubens, copied in the Florentine Gallery, by Miss Lydia M. Watkina, sister of Mr. Kenneth Watkins, President of the New Zealand Art Students' Association. The picture is lent by Mr. E. K. Watkins. Another picture of considerable interest is a copy (Indian ink) by Mrs. Whitnoy, of a portrait of Mrs. Musters, executed by Sir Joshua Reynolds, Mrs. Musters was the grandmother of Mrs. Whitnoy, and the Mary Chaworth, who was Lord Byron's first love, and subject of his beautiful poem, " The Dream." On the walls arc a numberof coloured lithegraph picture*, from Martin's paintings, "The Great Day of His Wrath," "The Last .lodgment," and "The Plains of Heaven." These are also lent by* Mrs. Whitney. Mr. Josiah Martin shows some photograph enlargements (mezzotint), one, of the Maori female guide at the Hot Lakes, and tho other of a young European child, in addition to design* for Christmas cards, &c. These are very nicely got up. A number of casts, in plaster of Paris, are shown by Mr. T. Colson, of Taranaki, and are very good. One is of Tawhiao, and another is " The Two Sisters," but other subjects are also dealt with. The Exhibition will re-opeu to-day at noon.
