This Company is being formed for the purpose of mining for Tin.' The proprietors have every confidence in offering this venture to the public, being assured from reports obtained that it cannot fail to prove one of tho most remunerative ventures in the colonies, as may be seen from the annexed assays and reports. Tin mining in Australia and Tasmania his been carried on for some years past with the verv best results. The celebrated tin mine in Tasmania known as the " Mount Bischoff" has for some years past, and is at the present time, paying enormous dividends on the capital invited, the mino yielding about two per cent, tin, while it will be seen that this Company's yield is considerably over double that percentage. Applications for Shares may be made to the Manager at Auckland. Every application must be accompanied by the required deposit. ASS ACER'S ANALYSIS AND REPORT. To r r *EK AND ADAM, Conmbes' Arcade, Auckland: , ...... 4I Dear -Irs,-I have completed ray analysis of your 'ample of tin ore. I find it te contain a very high percentage of'tin, which makes the ore valuable indeed, conUining as it does newly 4J per cant of meUllio in i his o-a occurring in a fine st >te and in the centre of a coal district will speak for itself, when we see ih*t the tin loies of Cornwall, England, contain on an average from half to one per cent, of tin ore, and they The or.-fsayou'see by my analysis, is a complex ore, and I would suggest your working it as we worked our ores in Swansea, South Wales, which is as follows : Ist. The ore is purified of the iron oxides by concentration. . , _ 2nd It is calcined at a red heat so as to burn off tbe arsenic and sulphur, and these metals go off as fumes and are oondensed In a small flue as white arsenlo. which is of commercial value. 3rd The tin ore is brought out of the calcining furnace, and has water thrown over it. It Is then mixed in proper proportion with coke and thrown into the oxidising furnace, which Is kept at a hich temperature, so as to send off the tin as tin oxides, the fumes being condensed in a culvert! Thus the tin will leave behind It all it* imparities as a molten regalia, which will 4th. TheM C^roes D OT , oxides of Ua are taken from the condenser, and reduced Into metallic .'tin on the hearth of a reverboratory furnace, and tnen run Into moulds. The tin thus produced is of a pure nature, and perfectly free from all the usual impurities of commercial tin, and will always command a high price in the market. In conclusion 1 will say that if this ore is worked in the way I have mentioned, and governed by a steady and intelligent person, who will keep the furcaoes working In order, I have good reason to think (having had experience with this prooess myself) that this venture will prove to bo one of the best and most remunerative industries in the colonies. I am, yours faithfully, H. M. JOHNSTON, Atsaytr, Ouehnnga. REPORT BY MR. LOCKHART. Messrs. MERK AND ADAM : Auckland. 17th Ansust, 1885. Gentlemen —At your request I left Auckland and proceeded to the Went Coast of the Middle Island of New Zealand for the purpose of examining the Great Western Tin Mining Company's Kstate, and an* enabled 10 "rhe'eround, wht°cb°is 3 hel<l by the Company from the Government under the provisions of the Act, Is 860 teres in extent ' It is situated adjacent to the sea beach, to which In an almost straight line it has about one mile of frontage at a distance of about 23 miles north from the borough town of Westport It is an almost level plate»n rising four feet above high water mark, extending backward in a semicircular form, into the bosom of a lofty mount.in, and is covered with grass and -ooaslonal scrub. I examined the round in several places to a depth of about 8 feet, beyond which I could net go further on account of bottom water, which I had no means then at my disposal to contend with. Of this depth I found the upuer two feet to consist of a light sard, soil Intermixed with granite and hard white sandstone shingle, under which for the next six feet I found a subsoil of brig t greyish black metallic ssnd of which I have broueht samples with me in smill firmly seoured canvas bags marked 1,2, 3, i, 5, bring taken from Darts of the ground and from various depths. Portions of ihese I havs given to Mr. H. M. Johnston for asia/ Of ore similar In qnsllty to that supplied to him, six feet deep over tbe whole area of ground oould be supplied (free of any obstruction from water) at smelting works erected on the ground at a price not exceeding 4s per cubteyardjd fln( j )d &ny ),t» no9 the slightest indication of bottom, a very large if not a greater amount of or» of the same kind will be obtained at a sllehtly increased cost, on aocount of pumping operations which may be reaulred, but as tbe ore by assay lias been found to contain principally substances specifically lighter than tin all of which have beon disintegrated from the solid ores in the bosom of the mountain (400 to 500 feet high) by the continuous action of water for ages past, this natural sluicing action has carried out to sea the lighter portions of the former compact ores leaving the denser metallic particles to form tbe bed which is th« «nhinrt of this report, and it mu-t be assumed to a certainty that the lower down we find the disintegrated and naturally si. dcedore the much richer in the heavier metal it will| b*. Coal of the best quality for smnl lng purposes <s abundantly obtainable by a good beach road si lew water within four miles of the Compmy's mine, and timber for any purpose which may be required in obtainable in close proximity to the Company's proposed works. t From the results obtained by assaying, the amount of ore obtainable and the facilities at hand for the economical working of same I am convinced that as a wealth producing mine notbinr approaching to The Great Western Tin Mining Compar/i undertaking has hitherto been attained In New Zealand. I am, Gentleman, Your obedient servant, WILLIAM LOCKHART. Eighteen years practical Victorian Uinsr and Mine Manager *TForms of applications may be obtained at the Company's offices, Nob. 12 and 14, Coombes' Arcade. BMMMMaewM——S————S————————^^——wwaw—i
