Act, or for the purpose or with respect to any sweep to any lottery or scheme similar ihereto; or (S) Inviting any person to make or take any share in connection with any such bet or wager, sweepstake, lottery, m scheme; every person sending, exuibit ng. pubituhiu;, or causing the same to be sent, exhibited, or publiahe ', shall be liable on conviction to a penalty of not more than tifty pounds for each olTence, or in ihe iliscietion of the justices heloie whom he i-hall he convicted, to be imp isoned for any term not exceeding two months, with or without hard kbour. If the l'oHim.'ister-Qeneral lias at any time reasonable g'ound to suppose any person to be engaged in receiving any money or valuable as or for tho consideration for any assurance, uudi rtakiug,promise, i r agreement, express, or implied, to pay or give thereafter any m.ney or valuable thing ou any event or couiiugunoy of or relating to any horse race, or any other race,'light, g-»nic, sp( rt, or exjreiae, or as or for the consideration for securing the laying or giving by some other person of any money or valuable | th:n s ' on any such event or contingency as aforesaid, " to be engaged in promoting oi carrying out any such scheme connected with any such assurance, undertaking, promise, or agreomont as aforesaid, or ny lottery, scheme of ohancs, or unlawful guile, or to be engaged in receiving money under pretence of foretelling future events, or t.) bo engage! iu auy fraudulent business or undertaking, thon the said PoHtnustor-Ueueral may, if he tuink at, order and declare, by notification uuder Ills hanii duly published in the UiZeUe. hat uo letter, packet, newspaper or parcel addressed n any such pe son (eitaer by his own or any fictitious or assumed name), or to any address without a naino, ?h*ll be dither registered or delivered to any such peisiu. Such noiillc.»tion shall specify every such name whether reai, tletitioiu, Or assume i. or. ari/'aflnress in respect of which such order is made, and such rder slia I, upon such notification thereof, be,' of lull force and effect, notwithstanding anything contained iu th Act, or in auy rules' or rsgtiiations under this Ac., until such order is cancelled by the Postmaster-Qoneial, which he is hereby empowered to do ; and if any letter addressed to any such person ny any such name be received at any I'ost Ottiio, it shall not be delivered to the person to whom, or at the address to which it is addressed, but shall at once be sent to.the Do'id Letter OlHce in Wellington, and shall, if it were originally posted in Now Zealand, be opened and immediately returned to the sender, or, if '.oi originally posted in New Zealand, be returned unopened to the colony or country whence it originally came. No money orders shall be issued in favour of any such person with respoct to whom any such order has been made and declared by notification as aforesaid, and no money order shall be paid to any such person. Every person who shall buy any ticket in any lottery, as defined by sections eighteen and nineteen of the said Ait, or shall iu any way take any p;rt therein as a member or otherwise thereof, shall forfeit and pay a sum not exceeding ten pounds. Nothing in this Act contained shall be construed as referring to r.ay lottery which is or may be sanctioned under authority of the siid Act and nothing in the said Act or this Act cmtaintd, sli.ill apply to any sweepstake got up on any racec.iurse, provided that the total amount subscribed does not exceed five pounds, that the several contributions thereto do not exceed five shillings each, and that the whole sum contributed goes to the winner without any deduc.ion on any acconnt.
