The barque Loch Nan, which arrived at Sydney on the Ist instant, hud a somewhat rough weather passage. She sailed from Mercury Bay on the lOch ultimo, ?.nJ experienced tine southerly winds up to the 2itb, when the weather became veiy squally and the wind shifted round to west, ana veeicd about from that quarter to W.S. W. and W.N. W. At midnight of the 25th the wind was blowing & gale, accompanied with heavy squalls and a high head sea, but on the following day the weather moderated. On the 27th, however, the wind freshened up again until it was blowing a hard gale, and the vessel had to bu put under short canvas. The lower foretopsail was blown away in a heavy squall. On the 28th the wind moderated, but there w<.« still a heavy sea ; and on the 'J'Jth the gale spring up iifiesb, and the barque was hove-to under the lower main toprail. Large quantities of water found their way on board, and the deck cargo was shifted, bat no damage was done. The gale continued until the afternoon of the 30tb, the ■hip's leeside being under water the whole of the time. Southerly winds from then to arrival. The a*. Wairarapa took her departure for Sydney via Russell last evening, with cargo and passengers. At Russell she is to receive a quantity of transhipment goods from Fiji from the Arawata, which arrived at Russell yesterday morning. The s.s. Arawata arrived at Russell yesterday - morning from FrSi. She is to-day to tranship cargo into the Wairarapa for Sydney, and then leave this evening lor here, arriving early tomorrow morning. iLe Arawata left Fiji on the 7th instant, and had hoe weather during the pastiage. For Auckland sho has eight saloon and nine steerage passengers, and as cargo 1500 bunches bananas, and 100 tons of assorted oargo. The Colonial Government m. Stella took her departure for Southern ports yesterday morning. All accounts against the barque Samuel must be presented to-day by noon to t*e agent, Mi. G. Cozens, at his office, Queen-street. The three-masted schooner LusUr has, we understand, been purchased by Captain D. H. McKenzie and Captain Colin Oauupb«ll from Captain Ryfkogle. The price given aaa not transpired. Mr. D. Gouk launched the new schooner Nelu yesterday morning from his yards. A full description of the vessel and her intended trade has already appeared iu the IIEItALD. Tke launch wan most successful, the christening ceremony being performed by Mr. Gouk's youngest daughter. The schooner is to leave at an early date for Samoa. Mr. D. Gouk is at an eariy date to lay down the keel for a new cutter, which is to be built to the order of Mr. C. A. Harris, jun. The Defiance, brigantine, arrived at Melbourne, on the 9th instant, from Dunedin. j THE TOKEEAU ASHORE. The cutter Tokerau, which for some time past has been trading between this port and Tauranga, calling at ports en route, is, we, learn, ashore at Mercury Bay. From our telegrams we learn that the cutter parted her cables during a strong gale, and before anything could be done sh<9 wenc ashore on Buffalo Beach. So far, fortunately, the catter has not sustained any serious damage, and it is anticipated that she will be successfully floated during the next few days. Tho cutter is owned by Messrs. A. Asher and J. D. Wrigley, of Tauranga, and was built ab»ut live years ago. She is a staunch vessel of 35 tons register. The cutter at the time of the accident was in ballast from Tauranga, bound for this port, and had Called at Mercury Bay for a cargo of timber. / PORT OF ONEHUKGA. arrivals. .
