The Glenelg is to leave again for Whangarei this evening. ' The brigantine Ryno, of the well-known Circular Saw Line, cleared outwards at the Customs yesterday for a. cruise amongst the islands of the South Seas. Since the last arrival of the Kyno at this port, she has been in the hands of the shipwrights and eailmakers, and a large amount of work has been done ou the vessel, and the Ryno now leaves port in that excellent state of repair and good order that so generally prevails amongst all the vessels carrying Messrs. Henderson and Macfarle.ne'i flag. Captain Bewicke still retains command. The s.s. Clansman, for Taurauga, and Argyle, for Mercury Bay, left last evening with passengers and cargo. Captain Ainodeo resumed charge of the Argyle, having recovered from his recent illness. The Union Company's chartered steamer lonst, hence via, Russell, arrived at Fiji on the Bth instant, after a somewhat rough passage of seven days. The Union Company's steamship Te Anau took her departure at noon yesterday for Southern ports and Melbourne, with passengers and cargo. The s.s. Suva, on her next visit here, is to be taken alongside the ship Crusader, for the purpose of having her niaetn unshipped and new ones put in. The R.M. e.g. Arawata, of the Union Co.'s line, came into harbour yesterday morning early, from Fiji via Russell, after a somewhat dirty-weather passage. Her cargo this trip is not a very large one, nor is she very well patronised by passengers. Captain Cromarty reports having sailed from Levuka at 6 a.m. on the 10th instant, and Suva tho same day at 4 p.m. Passed Mount Washington at 10 p.m. on the 10th instant, and arrived at Russell at 9.30 a.m. on the 15th instant. Landed cargo and passengers, and, having coaled, sailed again at 7.30 p.m. the same day, arriving: at 8.15 o'clock on Thursday morning. From Fiji to Russell experienced strong S. and S.W. winds and heavy head sea and equally weather; and from Russell to arrival here had light S. winds and fine weather. The B.a. Waitaki, from Whangarei, arrived last evening with several passengers and a quantity of cargo. She is to leave again this evening for the same port. THE SUPPOSED WRECK OF THE WAIAPU. Yesterday Mr. H. Is. Morton received the following letter from Captain Skinner, of the schooner Gisborne, and it will be noticed that the latter feels very confident as to the safety of the Waiapu. The letter is as follows : — July 15, 1885. H. B. Morton, Esq. Dear Sir-In i reference to wreck seen by Rotoaiohana, I am almost sure It is not the Waiapu. Tho Waiapu left here on • Sunday morning with fine fair wind,and , it hue been fine i weather ever since. I have had a wire from Captain Popham. of Rotouiohana, and he says there was no -timber, and that the wind was N.W., which is the smoothest wind you can have rouiid the Cope. Another thing, the Walapu is the last vessel to turn over in Auckland, and she was ballasted with 25 tons I;

coment, which would sink her if site wax full of wa'jir, and I believe that she would, with the ballast she tun in her, blow the sticks out of her. I also know that Nicolas is a stood seaman All the eh uncos aro in favour of him being all right. The wreck may have been from the last tilon- we Had. or it rainht bo a whale dead, floating belly up. win. h looks vorv much like a hnll I know that natives are whaling round there, and that they nearly killed two, but that they had to out, owing to one of the bnat< being swamped, so that it might be a whale lam feeling very easy about the matter, knowing what tho weather has beon. See Mrs. Vlcolas. and show her this. I sail to-night. Should have beon away this nioroing, but for this.— Yours. Ac., J. H Skinsbr.

Later in the day tho same gontlenijui reosivod the following telegram from the Gisborne agent of the Waiapu :—" Suva left eight this morning to look for vessel; hope they will recover her." From Captain Skinner's letter it will be noticed that he feels most sanguine as to the safety of the vessel iu which he holda an Interest ; and, taking all the now known oircumstanoea into consideration, it in just possible that Captain Popham and his oHicers hive been mistaken as to seeing a vensol \t all. It must be romembered that Captain Skinner is an old trader on the East Coast, and is better able to speak with authority than nnyone else we know of, and it is noi at all unlikely that he has hit v.he right keynote in the sentence in his letter, in which he says :— " I know that natives are whaling round there, and that they nearly killed two, but that thoy had to out, owing to one of the boats being swamped, so that it might bo a whale." It is to be hoped that such is the case. PORT OF ONEHUNGA. ARRIVALS. Gaiiloch, s.s., filcArthur, from Waitara.
