MUTUAL ASSURANCE SOCIETY OF VICTORIA.

The Mutual Assurance Society (Limited) of Victoria have removed into their new offices, situated above Atkins' drapery establishment, and next to Morrin and Co:'s warehouse. The property, as our readers will remember, was recently purchased by the society, since which they have entirely renovated tho first and second floors. The entrance into the offices is from Queenstreet, on the south side of the block, by a commodious staircase. On the first floor is the public office of the company, manager's office and board-room, which are tastefully fitted up, having also fireproof safes, lavatories, &c. Threat 'her offices on this floor will be available for letting, and are admirably adapted as offices for lawyers, architects, or other professional men. Another flight of stairs of easy access leads to the second floor, on which are situated five roomy offices, the r,wo front ones specially adapted for architects' offices, owing to being well lighted. The facade of the building has been entirely altered, and a neat and handsome parapet has been added to the front, surmouuted by the society's emblem, " Fidem Teneo," and classical figures. The society determined to establish their district identity from societies of a somewhat similar nature, and we think they have thoroughly succeeded in carrying out that resolve. The alterations above referred to have greatly improved the locality. A new verandah will shortly be substituted for the present erection. ' Tbo society has been established now for fifteen years, and in the extension of their business to New Zealand have evidently been well satisfied with the result. The Victorian Government has compelled its railway officials and oivil servants to insure their lives up to an amount not less than a year's salary, and have investigated the accounts of all the life assurance societies doing business in Victoria, with a view of ascertaining their financial soundness. Among the societies selected by the Government as those in whioh, from their financial stability the Government servants must insure, is the name of the Mutual, Victoria. This speaks volumes for the reputation of the society. Tho Auckland manager is Mr. T. E. Edmonds, and the local directors, the Hon. E. Mitohelson, D. B. Cruiokshank, and R. C.Barstow.
