ONEHUNGA BOROUGH COUNCIL.

A special meeting of the Council was held on Tuesday evening, to consider the annual statement of accounts. Present : The Mayor (Dr. Scott), Messrs, Clark, Hills, Jaokson, London, and Tapp. Annual Accounts,—The receipts during the year from all sources amounted to £1282, out of which £720 had been expended on the streets. —The accounts ha vine; been duly audited, were approved and signed. Blue Metal.—An adjournment of the last ordinary sitting was then held, to finish the business not conoluded at the previous meeting.—A motion for a quantity of blue metal for too main road, not exceeding 500 yards, was lost. Private Streets.—On the motion of Mr. Jackson, it was agreed, " That tho Counoil is willing to take over all the private streets that were in existence previous to the incorporation of tho district. It was shown that these streets, some of which were a ohain wide, though some of thorn were narrow, were all laid off under the provisions of then existing Acts, and as the present owners were not the same as those who benefited by the cutting up twenty years baok, it waa only fair to give them now the opportunity of getting their streets repaired under the conditions of the M.C. Act. Salvage Corps.—lt was agreed to organise a Salvage Corps, and appoint a Fire Inspector. Tho resolution was referred to a committee, to prepare the requisite regulations.

Protests, —Some time baok two protests made by members of the Counoil were enterod on the minutes, and subsequently expunged, it was alleged illegally. The proof that they were improperly expunged was thai they were received in evidence as part of the minutes in a case heard before the Resident Magistrate, Auckland.—A motion (;o restore them to their plaoe on the minute book was now made, and oarried by 4 to 2.

Licensing Committee,—lt was agreed to receive applications from persons willing to be recommended for appointment by the Governor as Clerk to the Licensing Committee. —[Own Correspondent, May 14.]
