; FASHION NOTES. Pannieks are on the increase. Basket bonccts'grow in favour. White dresses of all kinds are worn. The short p tiffed sleeve is coming in vogue for evening dresseß. The Japanese fete in Paris has given an impetas in tho direction of Japanese costume. . In Paris the tonrnure is growing into crinoline and often hoops are worn nnder short skirts. .. Dark blue and combinations of white and * blue and blue and red are the popular colours for bathing suits. When the material permits, the nounce scalloped into the form of dog'tooth moulding ia most effective. The Louis XV. costume ar,d everything which pertains to the Pompadour period is more than ever in vogue. _ _ Cheese-cloth costumes, trimmed with wide torchon lace, make pretty rooming dresses for the country. Some of the prettiest yachting suits seen this summer are of dark-blue flannel, with red satin waistcoats. _ Underskirts are made simply. _ Ruffles, tucks and full lace ruches are favourite modes of trimming. _ Entire dresses of Spanish and French thread lace are seen at watering-places, worn over caloured silk or satin. Shoulder capes, matched to the dress and finished with a ruffle of Oriental or other fancy lace, are much worm this summer Single-coloured mHslins, in blue, pink, ecru, apple-green and lilac, and trimmed with lace and ribbon, form the prettiest of summer costumes.
