SHOCKING MURDER IN DUBLIN.

A TREMBLE murder was co Mai ttej Recently in Lineuhall-street Barracks, by Thomas Wilson, a private in the East Kent Regiment, who deliberately shot dead Corporal Ernest Hope, aged 24. Wilson, tvho is 24, is a man of very bad character, and had twice deserted from his regiment,. He was a short time ago gnilty of some disorderly conduct in barracks, and was charged with this offence before his colonel. At the inquiry the sergeant was unable to attend, but Corporal Hope gave evidence against Wilson, who was punished. He then expressed his determination to be even with him, and when he came off sentry duty at midnight he went towards the dormitory where Hope was asleep. Taking aim from a window adjacent to where the man lay, he fired bis rifle, and the bullet passed through the neck of the unfortunate man. Death was i instantaneous. The greatest consternation prevailed in the barracks at the report of the .shot, and the sergeant of the guard at once entered the dormitory and seized Wilson, who gave up his rifle, stating that he had intended to shoot all the persons in the dormitory. When asked the reason for his extraordinary conduct he said he could | assign no reason for it, and later on he said he had made up his mind to kill the corporal; j he had done it, ai.d that was all about ■ it. Wilson was brought up at the Dublin Police-court in the afternoon charged with the wilful murder of Hope, and he was remanded.—On the same l day a woman-named Stephenson, in a fit of insanity, attacked her two children, aged respectively nine and six years, and fractured their skulls with a hammer, and then attempted to commit suicide.
