CORRESPONDENCE.

A PUBLIC SQUARE.

TO SHE EDITOB. Sib, —The demolition of the old buildings on the block between Queen, Shortland, and Fort Streets has shown to all what a magnificent square the site would make. Seeing that there is not one public square in the whole city, it is desirable that the authorities should take the opportunity, while it serves, to make one. Of course, the Corporation would sacrifice some revenue, and the New Zealand Insurance Company some profit, but I bope that neither body will stand in the way of effecting grand improvement tc our city, which, if now neglected, the opportunity will never return. I believe if the ratepayers were polled to-mbrrow, that a vast majority would vote for the public square.— I am, &c., J, C. Firth.
