CRIMINAL CALENDAR.
The Supreme Court opens on Monday first, at eleven o'clock, for gaol delivery. The calendar is on this occasion a heary one, and what may be called a light one also. It is heavy in respect to numbers of persons to be tried, 4S, and a light one in regard to the number of offences, 9. Among the prisoners are 25 Maoris. Twenty-three are designated Hiuihatis in point ot religion ; one is a Roman Catholic, one is of no religion, one belongs to the Church of England, and the others are out on bail, and the usual particulars not recorded. Of tho prisoners in custody, six can read and write, four of these being Maoris—Mahuki being one of these. The following is the calendar : — Charles Werner, came to the colony by the Catherine in 1575, native of Germany, baki r, age 27, single, Roman Catholic, can read and write, horse-steahng and larceny ; Nicholas Marsh, rape, on bail ; Hie, native of New Zealand, labourer, age 36, single, no religion, assault with intent to commit rape ; I'ctirika Whakatutu, perjury, on bail; Harry Whittiker Duval, per Lady Ruth, in 1877, England, draughtsman, 26, single, Church of England, can real and write, laiceny as a bailee; Thomas Gather-cc-i.le, cattle-stealing, on bail; Edwin Barnes Walker, Thornton Wa'ker, Charles Walker, Goorue Gear, John Tyson, Edward Tripp, Manifred Scott, William Henry Grace, Thomas Joms, John Griee, Frederick Hoff, William Bowmar, James Riley, George Rigg, Charles Denton, John Cale, RiehaTd Mitchell, Robert Murdock, James Turiibull, forcible ejectment, on bail ; Te Mahuki, 45 married, Hauhau, can read and write ; Tami, 40, married, Hauhau, can neither read nor write; Hone Waikato, 60, married, Hauhau, can neither read nor write; Na'auahira, 60, married, Hjiuhau, can neither read nor write ; Weri Wainui, 50, married, Hauhau, can neither read nor write ; Poihipi Tukutareua, 35, married, Hauhau, can neither read nor write: Pu, 20, married, Hauhau, can neither read nor write; Toliirangi, 25, married, Hauhau, can neither rtfid nor writo ; Hone, 37, married, Hauhau, can read and writ-; ; Timi Hamilton, 20, single, Hauhau, can neither read nor write ; Kite, 30, married, Hauhau, can neither read nor write ; llori Turiroa, 47, married, Hauhau, can neither read nor write ; Hori Hohepa, 25, married, Hauhau, can neither read nor write ; Te Reti, 22; siugle, Hauhau, can neither read nor write ; Tauiora, 37, single, 11 mhau, can neither read nor write ; Toroa, 19, married, llai.hiu, can neither rtad nor write ; Poutaki, 33, married.
