Mr. Moore, of Wairoa South, was in town yesterday, and utilised his visit by pressing the claims of the annual sports to be held in the district on Boxing Day on the attention of those who were likely to give prizes. In this mission he was very successful, although ho seems to have confined his attention chiefly to the jewellers. Mr. F. H. Lewiseon, with his usual liberality, gave a handsome ailrer mug, Captain Payne presented a silver telescopic pencil, and Messrs. Kohn Brothers gave a large silver propelling pencil, while Mr. Isidore Alexander gave a very handsome set of gold studs. Mr. Samuel, hardware merchant, gave a splendid knife, elegantly finished, and furnished with a corkscrew aud numerous other useful appliances. Altogether, Mr. Moore was very successful in pushing the claims of th« district sports, and he requests us to acknowledge, on behalf of the committee, the receipt of theie very handsome and appropriate prizes.
