THE EIGHT HOURS' DEMONSTRATION.
The adjourned meeting of the delegates of the Eight Hours' Demonstration was held in the Working Men's Club last evening, the president (Mr. Heslop) in the chair. The minutes of the previous meeting having been read, additional delegates from the mills, representing the joiners, yardmen, &c, were introduced, &nd took their seats. Some correspondence having been read, Mr. King reported that he had secured the Domain cricket ground on the usual terms. ' The Sports Committee submitted the following programme of games : —l2O Yards Maiden Race ; Throwing the Hammer ; Demonstration Handicap, three events—ll2o yards, 220 yards, anil one-quarter mile, open ; Jlandicap Boys' Kace, 120 yards ; Handicap Walking Match, two miles, open; Running Hop, Step, and Jump; Married Ladies' Race ; 150 yards Handicap, members only; Members (over 40 years) Kace, 200 yards ; Sack Race, GO yards ; One-quarter Mile Handicap, open; Handicap Hurdles, 200 yards, eight (lights, open ; Barrel Race, 100 yards ; Running Long Jump, open ; Mile Handicap, open ; Bicycle .Race ; Putting the Stone ; Wheelbarrow Race, backwards, 100 yards. Prizes have been kindly promised by Mr. J. M. Parga villa, M.H.R., Messrs. tinrrett Brothers, Munroe and Milligan, Montague, Mackay, W. H. Fen ton, B. Keane, G. Quick, and H. Brett. The canvass for prizes has not yet commenced, the foregoing being voluntary. All the leading merchants and citizens will be speedily canvassed. It was resolved that tenders for the service of a band for the demonstration be advertised for. The meeting then adjourned to next Friday.
