ST. LUKE'S, MOUNT ALBERT.
rut; annual social gathering of the congregation of St. Luke's Church, Mount Albert, took place last evening in the Mount Albeit Hall. One of Quick's omnibuses left the Union Bank coiner at 5.45 p m., and conveyed a party from town to the meeting. Ihe hall was decorated with ferns, flowers, See. An excellent tea was provided at 0.30 p.m. Besides tea, cake, sandwichcs, &c., abundance of strawberries and cream were supplied. The ladies who presided at the trays were Mesdames A. K. Taylor, Martin, Beck, Haselden, Motion, Thompson, Webster, and Wright. After tea an entertainment was given. The Rev. John Haselden (incumbent) presided. The Revs. B. T. Dudley and \Y. Tebbs were present. The Chairman in his address said that at the last social gathering it was stated that it ■was necessary to enlarge the cliurch. Plans for the enlargement of the church had been been prepared by Mr. Bartley, architect, aud at the suggestion of the Rev. P. Walsh, who had had great experience in church architecture, some modifications had been made, and he (Rev. Mr. Ha>.e!Jen) was h>foniied by persons competent to give an opinion, that when the building was completed it would be a. very handsome suburban church. The alterations would be completed in March next, and the church would then have sitting accommodation for a much larger congregation than at present. Mr. .1. 11. Smith, builder, had received the contract for the work of enlarging the church. It was estimated that the cost of the alterations would be £100. The follow ing was the programme of the entertainment: — Pianoforte, Scotch airs, Miss Mary Baker: German song, "Lorelei," Miss Meier; part song, "Oh, Ilush Thee song, " Tne Gallant -Uh," Mr. Charters; reading, "A Single Gentleman," Rev. Mr. Tebb:'. : song, "The Friar of Orders Grey,"' Mr. Worr.Jl; song, " Von need na' come courting o' rue, Mi'-'s A. l.'avis ; song, "No, Sir," Miss K. Gilldiau : pianofarto ciuet, Misses Taylor and Davis : song, " Maid of A then::," Mr. Austin; song, " Valentine's Morning, Mrs. A. I\. Taylor: reading, "Guides,' Mr. lemplar; sung, "Oil give nic but my Arab steed, ' Mr. Kerriday ; song, "Tit for Tat," Miss K. Giliillan ; part song, " The Open Air," MisMeier's German song was a novelty, and was encored. Mi->s Davis was recalled and was obliged to repeat a verse of her song ; so, also, was Mrs. Taylor.
