THE LAND SALES AT GISBORNE.

[BT TELEGRAPH. —PHKSH ASSOCIATION.] Gisuornk, Tuesday. Tuk New Zealand Land Settlement Company's first sale of land took place to-day. 500 persons were present. The Pouawa block, containing 7000 acres, sold at an average of 42s Gd per acrc. The land is situated four miles from Oisborne. The Whataupoko block, opposite Gisbornc, containing 1000 a<?res, was submitted in sections of from oto 40 acres. About .">OO acres were sold at an average of £15 per acre. The balance of the land—there being no bidders —was withdrawn. A number of intending purchasers remain here till the Bth of December for the Government land sale, when some valuable blocks near tiisborne will be oQ'ered.
