Some friars in Switzerland in I.'WO wished to build ;x windmill to save the labour of rji-imlinu wheat by hand, but a man who had bought the country around forbade them, because, lie said, he owned the wind. The bishop was appealed to, and lie said the winds could not be used, because they belonged to the church. This looks very ridiculous in the light of the nineteenth century knowledge, when the chinch claims little that is terrestrial, and even corporations only claim such tangible substances as water and " franchises.'
