Several arrests were made. More outrages are reported from Ireland. Aα attempt was made to murder a gentleman in West Meath and the Deputy Lieutenant for the county. He was fired at by two men, but they missed their fire, and he escaped uninjured. At Kerry a dastardly attempt was committed upon a farmer, whose offence was that he had been guilty of paying his rent contrary to the directions 01 the Land
League, five men broke into his house, and savagely attacked the unfortunate man, leaving him half dead. An outrage of a similar character is also reported to have taken place near Cork. The Marquis of Lome, Governor-General of Canada, has arrived in England on a visit* It is anticipated that his stay will not be long, and that his wife, the Princess Louise, will return with him. The Indian Government has decided to despatch an expedition to punish the depredations of a predatory tribe. Preparations have been completed, and the force will shortly start. The Leinstcr constabulary were so savagely attacked that the military had to be called -ut, and reinforcements procured before the disturbance was suppressed. An Irishman ha 3 be'-n arrested by the police in Bernberg, a town in the duchy of Auahalt, German Empire, charged with purchasing from a local manufacturer, clockworks intended for an infernal machine. It is supposed he is agent of the Fenian organisation. There is a strong feeling among the Zulus in favour of reviving the kingship over their nation, which has been dormant since the capture and imprisonment of King Cetewayo. John Dunn is a candidate for the kingly office, and will probably receive a large amount of support from the Zulu chiefs and people. Extensive immigration has set in amongst the Jews in Southern Russia, who have suffered so much in the recent persecutions and outrages, inflicted on them by the Russian peasants anil townspeople. Large numbers have already arrived in the United Stutes, and many niure are preparing to follow. A destructive fire occurred at Valparaiso. The Customhouse was burned to the ground. The damage done is estimated at 100,000 dollars. A horrible outrage hag been perpetrated at Weilford, Ireland. A lady, the owner of property in that locality, h.is been brutally murdered. Her house was entered by night, and she was killed while sleeping in be-. The perpetrators of the deed escaped.
